Sometimes when i'm working I like to pretend that Temple's a remote resort. That all of the students and the faculty are actually vacationers and travelers, passing their time. I'm a pool boy who moonlights as a waiter: keeping the pool water clean, keeping the fountains squirting, serving the coconut drinks with the little umbrellas. And I live out at the far end of the island in a hut with the other service people.
It occurred to me in the winter. Spending a few hours out on campus and then coming inside a building began to feel like being jostled around by the Atlantic ocean.
