I did something today that I thought I wouldn't do for at least another ten years: I bought a pot plant.
I mean, I like plants well enough, but I don't exactly have a green thumb. I was gifted a bonsai tree twice, and both times it died after less than a year. Plus, I found the chore of having to water my Mum's bazillion pot plants every day whenever she wasn't around rather annoying. So I kind of mentally filed them away as a hobby that I won't pick up again until I'm feeling more grown up and have fewer other things to do.
But these orchids at the supermarket... they looked exactly like one that I bought for my Mum's birthday a couple of years ago and that blooms like mad to this day. I just couldn't resist. I opted for a different colour (my Mum's is pink-ish), but nonetheless I'm going to consider it my "Mum flower". If my Mum's is anything to go by, it should be pretty robust and might even survive for a little while in my care. We'll see.
