Do you know any dramas that are set in the countryside / mountains or revolve around traditional Japanese culture?
Osen (http://wiki.d-addicts.com/Osen) is everything you're looking for. It's a drama set in the countryside about traditional Japanese cooking. So is http://wiki.d-addicts.com/Fake_Kyoto_Bijutsu_Jiken_Emaki -- an art drama set in Kyoto about traditional Japanese art and art theft.
Older characters: Kekkon dekinai otoko (http://wiki.d-addicts.com/Kekkon_Dekinai_Otoko). Possibly one of my favorite dramas in the history of ever.
If you want police dramas, try Unfair or Strawberry Night.
Creative office dramas, try sapuri, Haken no hinkaku, Hotaru no hikari
Nodame Cantabile is a great music drama, but it takes place in a music school. The characters are all probably 23-26 though.

I missed 90% of dramas between September 2007 - March 2010 because of lack of computer access. :/ There used to be a japanese drama community but the mod deleted it after the megaupload fiasco.
The weather is miserable. I can't hang anything out. I'll check out your public blog too.
