I have to admit, that ever since I noticed that links to these reviews with their titles have been appearing over at the havenherald (assembled by the hardworking killabeez), I've really wanted to have an exceptionally dramatic subject line. Now that I've gotten that out of my system (maybe), on to this week's review of last Friday's Haven, "Lay Me Down." For those lured here by my lurid title, this review contains big, wet, sloppy spoilers for the episode in question, but the future is shrouded in mystery.
And now, on with the show! [Spoiler (click to open)] As a big Nathan/Audrey shipper, can I just say ... YEEE-HAW! (Continues groovy little victory dance I've been doing since Friday night.) They finally stopped sabotaging themselves! Go, true love, go! Go, destiny, go! Darn it, I'm still grinning. Okay, okay, keep clam. Yay.
Oh, wait, more that that happened.
(I meant to say this last week.) Even though it's a moot point by now, I'm sorry, but Wade stabbed an innocent bystander and nearly killed him in front of two cops and two other witnesses. Duke's "hey guys, do me a favor and let me handle this" request does not cut it. The crime is too violent. The cops - Nathan, Audrey, Stan, whomever - would arrest him as soon as they could.
But, on to the part they don't know. Wow, Wade kinda went from zero to serial killer in three seconds. Again, I was expecting this storyline to be drawn out for the entire season, and for Wade to die in 4x13, not nearly this soon. And the Trouble analyst in me finds it very interesting that Duke could, in fact, purge his own Trouble from his family line. Other than Duke being guilt-ridden for the rest of the season, it will be interesting to see how this factors into everything else that's going on.
I liked the Trouble of the Week (and it included killer dream bees - look, I justified my outrageous title), although - much like when you know who the murderer is on Castle because it's the only actor you recognize, I knew who the Troubled person was because I recognized the actress. (Hemlock Grove. It's not bad up until the finale, and then it derails and there's WTF spilled all over the place.) And we got to see Nathan's living room! I'm kinda surprised the other dreams weren't as surreal as Nathan's.
Loved that they brought back Gloria the Coroner. She's awesome. She can come back as often as she likes. But does anyone really think that Dr. Lucassi just left? We'll find his body eventually.
And the Troubles are mutating or something. That is so really very not good. I guess Dave's prediction of unleashing powers beyond comprehension was right on the money. The funny thing is, when we first saw those two guys from the Barn, my initial thought was "why are those guys from the Barn appearing in whatshername's dream instead of the real muggers?" instead of the actual scenario of "why did those guys from the Barn mug her?" I wonder if we will see more Troubles from previous episodes mutating?
I wonder what's up with Agent Howard arranging for Jennifer's adoption? Is she Lucy's daughter? James and Arla's daughter? William's? Some other player? Is she the evil anti-Audrey? (I just made that up, I don't know what it means.) I hope not the last one, I like Jennifer. And she's not allowed to die this season, mmmmm-kay?
Oh, and I'm guessing that Audrey didn't do much undercover work with the F.B.I., because she's really bad at pretending to be someone else for, like, what, a week? (I am accusing the character of being a bad actress. I am not accusing the actress of being a bad actress.)
And then, that finale with Audrey and Nathan and ... wait, I already mentioned it? Oh, okay.
