I have been completely obsessing over Season 3 of Haven. The amount of time I've spent thinking about it is probably unhealthy. Quite a bit of my free time every weekend since Season 3 started airing has been spent updating the
Haven Public Library.
And so, as you might expect, I have thoughts.
Spoilers through episodes 3x04 Over My Head. (And a little itty-bitty one for an upcoming episode, of the standard one-sentence description of the episode variety.)
In retrospect, I didn't really care for the aliens. In spite of its Tommyknocker connections, Haven just doesn't feel like an aliens kind of a place. And since it hooked in with this season's story arc, it feels like they're a presence.
However, the Troubles in the most recent three episodes have been really interesting. I definitely didn't see the dog transformation Trouble coming, the organ transformation Trouble was, if you'll pardon the expression, deeply troubling, and the underwater threat Trouble was actually kinda cool the way it played out.
It bothers me, a little, that the last two Troubles both failed the Darwin test. (Look! I just made up a test!) A Trouble that causes your organs to fail unless you kill your family members for replacements? How did this Trouble survive more than about two generations? Likewise a Trouble that, when you're in danger, kills anyone you think might rescue you?
Or is it that the Troubles are taking on a "some things must be believed to be seen" aspect? That thinking about something causes it to become a reality in some fashion. The underwater threats, the aliens, the snowglobe back in Season 2?
I've liked Duke's character development over the season so far. His crisis - killing one Troubled to save many - was extremely predictable, but it was handled well. I have to wonder ... will we ever see Duke's brothers? And do they have the family Trouble?
I have to agree with my esteemed Haven co-fan
lone_pyramid that both Nathan and Audrey need to be slapped upside the head. Okay, I know how TV series are about ships, but they need to be smooching NOW.
I think I love the Teagues brothers more every episode I see them in (I'm terribly amused that they're loaded.) Dwight and the three newbies seem ... fine. I don't expect them all to survive the season.
All the storylines seem to be going along nicely. They're telling us a lot without actually telling us anything, but they're doing a good job of it. I assume that in 46 days (and counting) we get the season finale, and another cliffhanger ...
But until then, the October 26th episode is going to be a Halloween episode! I've wanted a Halloween episode very, very much, and now I get my wish! Yippee!
