I ain't blaming her. she was pretty much on her own
Oh yeah, I felt bad for her.
See, I don't feel the least bit bad for her. She and Hotch are high school sweethearts; she's know for their whole relationship that he's like this obsessive perfectionist. She stayed with him throughout the entire time he was a lawyer, during which time (although his case load may have been lighter and he may have been home slightly more often) he was likely gone alot, trying to get his work done at work so he can be "at home" when he's at home. Further, even though she was stuck at home (heavily pregnant in the first season, then saddled with raising a new-born baby mostly on her own) with a young child, Hotch helped out whenever he could and whenever he was home. And it seems a bit to me like Jack was an attempt by both of them to keep their relationship working, and possibly by Hailey to keep Hotch home more. I can empathize with her loneliness, but I don't recall ever hearing her tell Hotch directly that she was lonely and wanted him to stay for her sake and for their son's (maybe once, but she folded really quick, almost like she didn't feel like really trying to get him to stay), and how could she, really, knowing that by making him stay home, she would be endangering the lives of numerous people and possibly letting a dangerous criminal escape.
With how much Hotch wanted to be home with her and Jack and how strongly he felt duty-bound to take the BAU cases to catch criminals and keep his family and the public safe, I don't feel like Hailey considered his side of it at all, and I think that it's inexcusable that she would cheat on him like that, knowing absolutely that he's been faithful to her and that he expects the same in return (there's no way that Hotch would ever break someone's trust and his own personal commitment to a person-- especially his marriage vows to his wife-- like she did).
So while I can understand that she was lonely, and while I can understand her wanting a divorce, and although I will concede that she's been very fair with respect to letting Hotch see/visit with Jack, even very late at night, the way that she treated him is inexcusable and I have no sympathy for her. I just don't believe that if she cared for Hotch she would have mistreated him so badly, without even an ultimatum, such as "spend more time home with me and Jack or I'm leaving your sorry, never-here ass."
