"Is this what you wanted?" Her warm breath on his shoulder, hands clutching his shirt. Cold sheets entangled in their arms and legs, fan overhead, the light from the window announcing morning's arrival. He couldn't let her go. Take a deep breath. She could feel his heart pounding - see his chest rising, watch his eyes study the ceiling. Questions raced through her mind. What's wrong, what are you thinking? Worry and doubt and not knowing. Take a deep breath. His eyes progressed from studying the ceiling to studying her mouth, her eyes, her jaw. With a smile came reassurance, with a kiss on the cheek came her satisfaction. "Why wouldn't it be?" A question with no intended answer, no meaning other than Yes. Smiles crept across both of their faces, verifying each other's thoughts. She let go of his shirt, he let go of her arms. "Sadness always interferes, you know." He just nodded and set his head against hers. Sadness, melancholy, apathy - what use are these. They weren't welcome here. Not on this, not with her.
