If anyone is looking for a long, well-written, in-depth, non-slash, non-sexual-at-all Reid-centric fic, I've been reading one on, believe it or not, ff.net: Helena Fallon's "The InBetween Times".
She's done a magnificent job, inventing a lot of family backstory for Reid as he recovers from "Revelations" trauma in a mental health care facility especially for government employees. Not the sort of thing I would normally read, but I decided to check it out and have been quite surprised at how absorbing it is. True, the level of intense psychiatric attention would never happen in this world (nor should it); she lets her own hobby-horses get the bit in their teeth once in a while, especially her dislike of Gideon; and upchucking as a way of displaying damage gets so old after the nine millionth story. Once in a while the things she has her therapists say would horrify any real shrink. Plus, she's British, so Reid carries a torch, wears jumpers, and is offered suet pudding for dessert. But for the most part she really manages to maintain good suspension of disbelief, largely I think because of the seriousness with which she approaches this monumental fic. Unlike most ff.net fic, the chapters are looooong, and there are a lot of them, you really have a chance to sink into this world. And her views, on things like Gideon's mentoring and what Reid does in his spare time, are at least original, and detailed. Very, very detailed. And if you like food scenes, boy, do they eat a lot! They're trying to fatten Reid up.
