nocturnali “What we have here is a failure to communicate.” Looking over his wire-rimmed glasses, the elderly gentlemen turned his attention to Bianca sitting across from him. “He’s feeling suffocated by the demands you place on him.”
Her hands tightening around the arms of the stiff wooden chair, Bianca glared at the man before her, her anger rising. Quickly she pushed herself up, defiantly turning her back on him as she stormed out the door. Glancing at the empty chair next to him, Wyatt gave a feeble smile to the man behind the desk, holding a finger up as he stood himself.
“Just… give me a minute,” he said by ways of an apology.
Although her pace was quick, Wyatt’s long strides took him much faster and she did not escape his sight for long. Her long caramel tresses floated behind her with her speed, and the undeniable grace with which she moved left no doubt in his mind that it wasn’t her.
“Bianca!” he shouted. “Bianca, wait!”
“What?” she snapped, spinning to look at him. Wyatt stopped, not wanting to get within the wide field that radiated her aggression. Annoyed, she stormed back to him. “You give me one good reason why I shouldn’t walk out of here.”
“Us.”
She looked away quickly. She didn’t want to admit that such a simple word had such a great impact on her. She was still furious, she wanted to stay that way, the adrenalin urged her so, but Wyatt always had a way of reasoning to calm things down. She couldn’t allow him that, not with her integrity at stake. She folded her arms defensively.
“Who came up with this stupid idea anyway?” she mumbled.
“Dad. He thought we should see someone to stop the constant bickering.”
“Why do you always do whatever your family tells you to?” she questioned heatedly.
“I didn’t,” Wyatt argued. “He told me to go to a magical advisor but I knew you wouldn’t have that. You’d only complain about exposing yourself to the magical community. So I decided we’d act like normal people and see a relationship counselor - someone who has no ties with what we do or our lifestyle, and still you can’t be happy!”
“How do you expect me to be, Wyatt? I didn’t come to see some second-rate quack so he could berate me for an hour about something that’s not true. I don’t need some psycho-babbling asshole telling us what’s wrong between us!” she shouted, elevating her voice enough so it would float through the office door letting the man know just how ill she thought of him.
“Well obviously there’s a problem, you can’t even keep control of yourself now!”
Feeling herself knocked down a peg or two, Bianca pressed her lips together. Not knowing what to do with her hands, she went to hug herself and then raised her fist to her mouth, brushing the tips of the fingers of her left hand against her lips as she backed into the shadow of the wall.
“I’m not demanding,” she sulked quietly. “I barely see you.”
“It’s just his professional opinion, baby,” Wyatt said, his voice softening as he stepped towards her. “You know you, I know you. That’s all that matters. I’m not going to change my opinion because he says so. I’m just trying to get things back to good. Don’t you want that too?”
After a few seconds she nodded, dropping her hand to her arm and holding herself tighter. Glancing towards the open door Wyatt sighed, lowering his head contemplatively.
“Do we have to do it this way?” Bianca asked faintly.
“Well I didn’t spend three quarters of my pay-packet on this so you could walk out in the first ten minutes,” Wyatt said with a wry smile. Stepping into her, he softly brushed her arms. “I’m not suggesting we make this a permanent solution, but we have to do something to push us in the right direction. I’m just asking you to try.”
