Procedural enquiries

Lovely icon from jidabug, and just perfect for today's entry. Thanks hon!

So here's the low-down for you all.
1: My IUCD is sitting really low, by the cervix. This is a) providing no contraceptive benefit at all, and we're very lucky I'm not pregnant; and b) what's causing the bleeding, probably.
2: That 'cyst'? Is a 'follicle cyst', meaning an egg. So, you know, nothing to worry about.
3: My iron levels - ferritin - which should be between 20 - 200, are at 7. Which would be why I'm so damn tired (I'm heading for Anaemia City on a fast train).

So, I'm going to have a procedure. I get knocked out under general anaesthetic, my IUCD removed, a hysteroscopy and a D&C performed (just to check that everything inside my uterus is A-OK), and a Mirena IUD inserted. Mirena is different because it also has a little hormone release thingummy in it, which thins the lining of the uterus.

I'm quite lucky - the Mirena IUD is usually not funded by Pharmac - so it costs $350. But because my iron levels are so low, they will pay for it entirely. This is a good thing.

Right now I have a script for a Mirena. I can't go to the chemist with it until I get a letter from Pharmac saying it's covered - it should arrive early next week. In the meantime, Dr Harillal's office is making a time for the procedure at Brightside. Once they have a time and a quote for approximate costs (anaethetist fees, room hire etc) I can get a Pre-approval from Southern Cross (I'm insured on the Jigsaw plan), and then we're all go.

In the meantime I get to keep taking the pretty pills, be very very tired, and use condoms for the sexy-sex-type escapades. *sigh* Not that I'm feeling very sexy right now.

yoni
