Quick entry from work. Behold the bullet points!
~ The move into The Manor went well
~ Although the humidity was fit to kill everyone
~ Ice-creams are good, as are frozen water bottles
~ Young burly men (friends of Taz's) who work without shirts are also good
~ As are friends who help with the cleaning and the unpacking
~ Thank you, everyone!
~ We have been without an internet connection for ten days now
~ Aargh! (The cry of the deprived net-fiend)
~ Suffice to say, flist reading is minimal, and I am so far behind I think I may never catch up
~ We managed to get dial-up, but only as far as Ben's laptop
~ Which is not very useful, generally speaking
~ We're getting a lot of
pop-cap games (on the hard drive) played in the meantime, though
~ And watching of TV shows leeched off friends (yay for new Heroes episodes)
~ Plus our new study is quite pleasant
~ Although I really need to get myself a foot rest - before Ben gets tired of me using his lap for that purpose!
~ Moss has turned into a jungle cat, and loves the backyard
~ There are many, many cats in the neighbourhood, and Moss seems to be making friends with all of them
~ We all miss Cwnn, though. It's strange not having her around pester us, love us, and frustrate us and entertain us
~ We buried Cwnn under the grapefruit tree at the old place
~ It takes a long time to dig a hole big enough for a monitor box
~ But it really helps with the grieving process
~ And we now have a kick-ass spade that will be brilliant in the vege garden at The Manor
~ Thank you all for your wonderfully supportive comments, hugs, visits and phone calls
~ Change is in the air - we're also moving premises at work
~ Not soon enough, though. There was a massive flood over the weekend (thank to idiot roofing contractors that can't, apparently, put a roof on correctly)
~ On the bright side, my office missed the waterfalls entirely
~ Still haven't swung myself a trip to Fiji to see the new office there - but I reckon I'll manage it sometime soon
~ The new offices are very cool, and in the middle of Onehunga. Closer to the shops ...
~ That might not be a good thing, actually
~ Went to the
Big Gay Out on Sunday, at Pt Chev
~ Finally - I've been meaning to go for the last few years!
~ Ran into lots of people I know - hugs were good, as was free water
~ Including Robin, our civil union celebrant
~ Received a lot of comments on our parasols. I think we're propagating a parasol-meme, somehow
~ Purchased a phenomenal number of
Marquis Condoms (and a t-shirt), a pretty bag with a paua tiki on it, and a black carved necklace for Sparkalicious
~ Was introduced to Halava, an Indian dessert thing with apricots. Yum (like
this, I think)
~ Taz came out of hospital before the move
~ His lung operation -
pleurodesis - appears to have been successful
~ The chemo hasn't been as good though, so they're about to start him on a different type
~ That's likely to kick his ass big-time
~ He's loving his new space though - he's called the sleepout 'The Mini-Manor'
~ Moss likes to visit him in it
~ It's lovely having him around but not Right. There.
~ He couldn't come to the Big Gay Out, but we took lots of photos for him instead
~ And this afternoon we are going shopping for a fridge for him
~ Still have much unpacking to do
~ And the plan to unpack books one box at a time, putting any not yet on
LibraryThing (most of them) onto
LibraryThing, remains
~ Although right now we don't have much to read, because all the books are still in boxes
~ Luckily, I keep going to second-hand stores and finding more books
~ Scored
Darkly Dreaming Dexter for $3 at the hospice shop in Glen Innes
~ Among many other cool things
~ And CJ Cherryh's
'Faded Sun' trilogy kept me entertained for nearly a week
~ The back has fallen off one of our bookcases
~ So we need to repair that before I put the non-fiction books out anyway
~ I want my broadband back!
~ Back to work
~ Although there's cheese and crackers to eat, left-over from last night's meeting
~ Which I organised
~ And did very well with, so got to take home a bottle of wine
~ Which makes up for being at work until 7pm, really
~ That, and getting paid for it
~ Bye!
