Postcards from the Ledge

The long weekend was full of fun things - and not so fun things. Sounds like life, dunnit?

Sociability
Had dinner out at the International Food Hall in Ponsonby with absolutequeer (AKA drgeeknz) on Friday night. Bloody freezing outside! Ran into growler_south and a 'beary' cute visitor coming down the stairs as we were going up. Once inside we ran into two of drgeeknz's friends, so we sat with them while they ate dinner. I felt terribly young.

My hormones have decided that they're really missing the girl-love at the moment, as I can't seem to stop looking at women! After sitting there for about twenty minutes, a woman came in - ugg boots, sweatpants and a jersey, a long scarf and a woolly hat (dark hair in a low-riding ponytail coming out the back). Her face reminded me ever-so-slightly of yours whitsunday, and I had trouble keeping my eyes off her as she slung her old backpack down, hauled out a large fiction book by an author I'd never heard of, and sat down to read whilst waiting for her Vietnamese. Just ... she was so interesting to look at, you know? I can't even say she was the kind of woman I am traditionally attracted to, because I don't have a type when it comes to women. But she was hot.

Anyhow ....

Saturday night was the Annual Fifth Ave housewarming, and for the first time in three years I missed it (granted, I was living there for the previous two). littledogtoo, I'm sorry I wasn't there, but I still had the migraine and had had one hell of an acupuncture session that morning. Ben and I watched Kiki's Delivery Service (a Miyuzaki film), and went to bed early instead.

Sunday night was party time, though, helping neongraal to celebrate his birthday on Monday. We showed up a little early, but hung about and watched the house fill up. Great to see everyone who was there, especially those of you whom it's been a while! neongraal, we had a wonderful time, even those of us remaining sober *sigh*, and I hope you had a great day on Monday.

Monday I was a homebody, sleeping in a little, and only leaving the house to drop Ben at Mandos'. I spent a few hours focusing on getting the fun room/study/spare room sorted, as Ben's mum comes up in two weeks and it would be helpful it was vaguely organised. alasatyr came over mid-afternoon, and we spent the rest of the day hanging out, watching some Green Wing, eating homemade pizza, and then randomly deciding to curl up and watch both volumes of Kill Bill. Ah, nothing like OTT violence and cool swords to finish up a long weekend. Unfortunately, going to bed very late probably wasn't the smartest move! *is tired*

Done and Done
The acupuncture on Saturday was one of the most grilling sessions I've had - or should that be skewering? I had 22 needles in me - six in the forehead, one on the top of the skull, one in each hand, four in each leg and two in each foot (now would be a good time to show you photos - here and here and here. They were taken about a month ago, and show the needles in my legs, and the electricity that gets pinged through them each time). It was odd, because I know intellectually that the needles go in quite deeply, but this time when Shandy was removing the needles from my forehead I could feel each one as it was pulled out. *shudders* Anyhow, she gave me some wicked acupressure as well, on my head, ears, neck and hands, and booked me in again for Wednesday.

(Aside: it's Tuesday now, and I still haven't shaken the damn thing. It fades in and out now, but I'm still on 2-3 painkillers a day).

Sunday afternoon I spent helping drgeeknz as she finished clearing out her unit. Well, she sorted and boxed and dumped, while I dealt with the Kitchen of Doom™. I was there for 4 1/2 hours total, spent probably 3 1/2 of that in the kitchen, and a good 2 of that on the oven and stove alone. That was quite a job! However, there was some satisfaction in getting in done thoroughly. drgeeknz flies out to England tonight, and I won't see her again for years and years, so it seemed a pretty damn good deal to spend a few hours elbow-greasing and nattering away.

Now I have a heap more things at the house to keep and/or on-sell through TradeMe. Ben looked with amusement at me as I hauled treasures from the car early Sunday evening. "Will you ever stop bringing stray furniture home?" he asked with a sigh. I pointed out, a little acerbically, that it's probably a good thing I don't frequent garage sales!

I wanna live forever
And yes, that was me in the Sunday Star-Times (again, hee!), with my full name and a photograph and everything. I'm really pleased with the picture, although I can imagine various ex's looking at it and going "fuck, she's gotten fat! And what a loser!" - and me going "neener neener, I like how I look and I don't care what you think about my obsessions." But that's just me.

For those who haven't seen it, it was an article about Modern-Day Obsessions. In this case, X-boxing, chocolate soy milk, Buffy (that would be me - and now everyone from Trev the fish n' chip man to various co-workers are CALLING me Buffy), and texting. Pretty much a filler puff-piece, but interesting nonetheless. I'll scan it in and upload it later for anyone who wants to have a read themselves.

buffy, acupuncture, migraine, movies
