Ten Little Whitepeople

I'd like to recommend two satires by Beverly Slapin and Annie Esposito of Oyate.org: Ten Little Whitepeople and Basic Skills Caucasian Americans Workbook. Both books turn inside out the "objective" white POV that dominates so many children's books about Native North Americans.

I've really had to struggle not to laugh too loudly over this beautiful satire where I am, lest I bring attention to myself.

These books are priceless and need to be read by everyone.

You might also want to point their attention toward Oyate's A Broken Flute (short review, with link to a longer, more personal, review, here). The bulk of Flute's 485 pages is reviews of currently popular kids books, highlighting the good ones and clearly pointing out what's wrong with the bad ones. For someone trying to run a classroom in real time, and thus needing a book-by-book reference as to thumbs-up, thumbs-down, and why, it's gold.
