My family has a partly jewish background but we're not connected to the local jewish community(*), we have more connection to refugee rights groups etc, so these sorts of issues really interest me. Thus I have nothing useful to contribute, but thanks for posting :)
(*)Which is quite small anyway, australia is a lot less jewish than america
Huh, I thought it was more than that. We're about 0.4% jewish afaict.
I think I come from one of the less diverse bits of australia, I met more jews in a week in Sydney than I have in nearly 30 years in WA (admitedly, I was billeted in a jewish college :)).
Jewish populations are higher in the bits of America that get a lot of international exposure, like New York City and Los Angeles, so that may explain it.
Thanks for this. I'm really hesitant to discuss Zionism with my parents, because their temple has a big-ass banner hanging up that says, "Wherever we stand, we stand with Israel." However, my Mom is pretty good at shooting down her "liberal" friends who send her bigoted shit about Arabs and Muslims, so maybe I'll give it a try.

I did not mean that being Jewish excludes one from whiteness, an argument that some people make. I am white and Jewish.
I realized after posting that this all might be unclear.
