Offer: I will run a 4- to 6-hour-long tabletop RPG for you and up to 5 of your friends/partners/compatriots. You provide the venue and snacks, and I'll bring the game and enough dice to go around.
Where? The venue will have to be within a reasonable daytrip of my home in central Massachusetts (I'll go as far west as Albany, north to mid-Vermont/NH/Maine, east to P-town, south to RI or New Haven, CT) or in a region where I frequently travel (within an hour's drive of northern Delaware -- thus, anywhere in Delaware, north to Philadelphia, east to south Jersey, south to Baltimore). I would be willing to do NYC if I am able to prevail upon friends for crash space.
What do we sit on? Venue must be nonsmoking and indoor, I'm afraid. I'm allergic to cigarette smoke, sunshine, and mosquitoes. :P However, it does not have to be a house or apartment. I can run in a hotel room at a local con (I don't have to attend the con to go to the hotel!) or at a gaming store (such as Worlds Apart in Amherst or Pandemonium in Cambridge).
What game? I speak fluent AD&D (first edition), Marvel Superheroes, Chill, and Vampire: the Masquerade, Werewolf: the Apocalypse, and Mage: the Ascension (first or second edition). I am familiar with World Tree, Ars Magica (third edition), and Blue Rose. I would be willing to try Call of Cthulhu (I think I have fifth edition) or the West End Games version (second edition) of Star Wars. I also have a fairly simple home-brewed system I can use for just about any scenario, if you're not married to a system.
What about the scenario and characters? I would provide pregenerated characters. Alternately, I could provide a break in your existing campaign for your existing characters. We would, in any case, discuss the sort of scenario you think your group would enjoy before I designed it. I could, for instance, run you a game in Miyazaki's Nausicaa world or in the world of Sarah Monette's Doctrine of Labyrinths series. Or I could cook up something totally different. We can decide that together.
Why are you qualified for this? I've been running tabletop games since about 1980, starting with the boxed basic D&D game and never looking back. I've had a wide array of gaming groups over the last 30 years, and I've run a broad variety of games and campaigns. I've run convention games at Sci-Con in Virginia Beach and MarsCon in Williamsburg, I've run LARPs in Richmond and Philadelphia, and I've written and edited RPG materials for White Wolf, Guardians of Order, and Aurora Games. I've run games for veteran gamers and beginners who got scared off games in high school; I adapt to my players' experience levels. My games are heavy on roleplay and light on combat, in general.
ALTERNATE OFFER: If you aren't in the geographic regions that would work for live gaming, I can write you a 3,000-8,000 word RPG module for you to run yourself (or hand to someone local to run for you). We would discuss details, such as whether this would be a story to fit into an existing campaign, a short 4- to 6-hour game, or the background for a longer story. I could write it to fit a given system, provide a basic sketch of the homebrew I use, or write it without system information at all and let you adapt at will.
Delivery: Between July and December 2010.
