This is a movie I haven't seen. It looks great with all the costumes and settings. If I have the time I will see it.

It is a good film ... and in England, if you get the DVD you get an extra ending, as the USA market has a differnt finish!!! (Now you will have to see it, to know what I mean ... won't you?)

I loved most of the casting in the Keira Knightley version. I am a very difficult audience for version of P & P because I have read the book so many times. I didn't like the scenes which were not canonical: for example, Darcy proposing to Elizabeth in a gazebo in the pouring rain, and Elizabeth and Darcy meeting on a walk in the wee hours of the morning towards the end of the film when he proposes again. IMO P & P is a Regency novel and shouldn't be remade to reflect modern sensibilities in period dress. Other than that I liked the film.

There was some great casting - but just had to giggle, as I was telling strikske that the English DVD had 2 endings, as the uSA had an extra scene at the end!

Have you seen the BBC version - 6 hours, and I really loved it ... and it does stick to the book, as much as possible.

I liked the Colin Firth version except for the silly scene where he dives into a lake with his riding boots on. Somehow I found that very unbelievable even for a super rich guy. Ruin a pair of riding boots? Not likely.

LOL - I had not noticed that! I know that scene is one that isn't in the book, but I could still cope with a wet-look Darcy!

I didn't want to watch that movie at first because of Colin Firth being the only Mr Darcy. Then I watched it at a friend's house and thought, hmm, not that bad but had to leave before the end.

About 2 months later I remembered that movie and watched it every day for a week, couldn't stop... Got a crush on Matthew Macfadyen and watched Death At A Funeral a lot too.

I wish it was possible to make a version of Pride and Prejudice that had a mix of actors both from the BBC series and this movie. Like, for example, I like Rosamund Pike's Jane a lot more but I liked Emilia Fox as Georgiana.

As you can see I have thought entirely too much about this.I actually wrote about it after watching the movie. I should post it...

I was the same, as I adored the BBC version ... then a friend lent me this, I was bored, popped in the DVD ... and was blown away by Matthew McF ... I'd seen him in series 1 Spooks, but in this, his Mr Darcy was very moving.

And I agree about Emilia Fox!

Yes, I got the note - and will answer!

I love that at one point in St Trinian's Colin Firth is walking in slo mo with a wet white shirt on... *swoons*

I didn't care much for the Mrs Darcy/Mr Darcy kissing ending tbh.

Matthew is gorgeous. I found those that made me giggle.

Yes, but I saw him first on this ... so when I see Mr Darcy teaching at St T ... that I find weird!

Love those icons - thanks for them!

This does step away from the book in one or two places ... especially the USA ending.

However if you liked the book, the BBC 6 hour mini-series was really good.
