I stayed in St Helier in Jersey.
As I have already posted I visited a Medieval castle in another town, however as cannons were improved a new castle was needed, so in Elizabethan times, on a promitary of rock in St Helier harbour, the new castle was built, and named after the queen -
Elizabeth Castle I went over on the DUKW, as the tide was in. I decided to return the same way after walking to the ferry, round & up the castle, and had the walk home ... so at least I had 10 mins sit down!
So I saw Elizabethan castle. extended in the Napoleonic era (and I saw a musket and a cannon demonstration) ... and, being Jersey, there were also German additions. So 400 years of history.
