Quite a few of my f-list have written long summaries about 2016, but I decided I wouldn't do that. Mine would have ended up long, rambling ... and depressing! However I have snagged this meme from
kazzy_cee - What did you do in 2016 that you'd never done before: I went to the gym.
- Did you keep your new years' resolutions, and will you make more for next year? I never make them, so at least that way I didn't break them!
- Did anyone close to you give birth? No
- Did anyone close to you die? Dad
- What countries did you visit? England!!
- What would you like to have in 2017 that you lacked in 2016? Better health.
- What date from 2016 will remain etched upon your memory, and why? 2nd September, the day dad died.
- What was your biggest achievement of the year? Driving to & from Colchester in the day to visit Auntie Joyce in hospital.
- What was your biggest failure? Not managing to get my house fully sorted out after the decorating and all Mum & Dad's stuff coming.
- Did you suffer illness or injury? Having had 2 chest viruses with a combined 12 weeks off work, an infection in a tooth root, and then another in the extraction site. I think that's all!!
- What was the best thing you bought? My bedroom furniture for the spare room, and the new cabinet in the kitchen.. I also really like my new granite work-surface.
- Whose behaviour merited celebration? My second nephew getting 2 x BTech's at distintion ... and then getting a job straight after leaving school
- Whose behaviour made you appalled and depressed? As ever polititians and some religious leaders. But mostly terrorists ... so much pain and suffering that the innocent bystanders have to go through.
- Where did most of your money go? The new built furniture, and the granite worktop.
- What did you get really, really, really excited about? The year started with the Star Wars film, that I was looking forward to going to ... but was not well. But as soon as I booked mtrip to London I couldn't wait to get there.
- What song will always remind you of 2016? Nothing special
- Compared to this time last year, are you happier or sadder? About the same.
- What do you wish you'd done more of? Housework! I am great at not doing it, but wish I could be more organised ... hoping the new furniture (once things are finally sorted) will help me.
- What do you wish you'd done less of? Coughing!
- How did you spend Christmas? Went to Church in the morning, then I made dinner. After Jiffy and I went for a walk round the cemetery, came back and opened our pressies, before watching the Queen, and then some more TV. Chatted to Brenda on the phone in the early evening.

- Did you fall in love in 2016? Ha ha
- How many one-night stands? In my dreams!!
- What were your favourite TV programmes? Strictly Come Dancing, Pointless, antique and history programmes
- Do you hate anyone now that you didn't hate this time last year? Not a great one to hate.
- What was the best book you read? The Bible
- What was your greatest musical discovery? That I still enjoy playing my saxophone and clarinet.
- What did you want and get? A new car.
- What did you want and not get? Dad's bomb fragments (Tim had them).
- What was your favourite film of this year? Only saw the new Star Wars one in Feb/March ... so has to be the favourite.
- What did you do on your birthday, and how old were you? I was 56. Jiffy and I went for a walk in the morning, then in the afternoon I spent the time with Dad, although he wasn't aware of the date. Tim and Claire came over in the evening with a takeaway.
- What one thing would have made your year immeasurably more satisfying? Being less poorly, and able to cope with things easier.
- How would you describe your personal fashion concept in 2016? Fashion!!!! I wear what's comfy, but am trying to be smarter all the time as I now am 100% of the time in Exeter.
- What kept you sane? My faith.
- Which celebrity/public figure did you fancy the most? Ha ha .... nothing changes ... James.
- What political issue stirred you the most? Nothing really, as I do vote, ddo have specific views, but too many people can get too hurt by politics.
- Who did you miss? Dad (and Mum)
- Who was the best new person you met? Some of the staff at Dad's care home. The care he had was exceptional.
- Tell us a valuable life lesson you learned in 2016: Nothing new really, just a feminder that grief affects loved ones differently.
- Quote a song lyric that sums up your year: Has to be "My heart belongs to Daddy"!!!
So I hope that you all enjoy celebrating tonight. Jiffy is already hiding as there have been a few fireworks already. I am sitting watching a DVD and waiting for 2017 to arrive ... a small glass of sherry at the ready! I shall then speak to both my brothers and sisters-in-law
