And for once I'm not talking about escaped cows.
I am doing my cupboard by cupboard sort and tidy through... it's a bit of a Forth Bridge job owing to lack of method and will to keep them tidy in between times but I digress.
This morning I reached the food cupboards.. three cupboards three shelves in the big one three in the second, two in the third.
Top shelf cupboard one.. chocolate/ crisps/ biscuits/ children's treat tin. Here also lurk the Easter Bunnies and other Chocolate figures which I can never bear to eat and two unopened tins of Buffy The Vampire Slayer Lollipops which someone gave me when the show was still running! But I digress again. I seem to have two unopened tins of biscuits , a box of After Eights , a Christmas pudding and a large box of chocolates in addition to the bars which I get for The Boy's packed lunch. And I had to find space for two new Easter Bunnies. I've put one tin of biscuits and the chocolates aside for the food bank.
Middle shelf cupboard one; Tinned goods! I seem to be stocked for a siege! I've pulled the older stock forward and put the newer stuff to the back but this shelf isn't too bad and a can of ham left over from Christmas went into the food bank box.
Bottom shelf cupboard one. Jars! Jams, pickles, sauces etc. As usual several jars with a quarter inch left in the bottom so out they went as did the Marmite as some boy have left the lid off! But three jars of olives and three of Pesto? Lack of method there! Everything taken off that shelf and the shelf cleaned . It looks tidier.
So on we move to cupboard two.
Top Shelf; Dried goods, pasta, noodles, flour, pulses, grains, dried fruits, sugar; Again with the siege mentality! Enough pasta and noodles and pulses to feed the five thousand! Again I put some aside for the food bank and I actually found something to add to my shopping list though.. dried milk, useful to keep in just in case..
Middle shelf; Teas coffees, etc. Good grief! Enough herbal teas to keep a commune going for a year! Four bags of ground coffee and several boxes of builder's tea. I really must work my way through some of this stuff!
Bottom shelf. Herbs and spices and essences and stock cubes. I threw away some stuff which was past its best but this shelf wasn't too shameful.
Cupboard Three
Top shelf cereals, oils, vinegars.. it's a double height shelf so the big stuff goes there. Two bottles of olive oil, two of balsamic vinegar, three of wine vinegar... oh well that all keeps but must work through the porridge oats and granola.
Bottom shelf; First aid.. yes I know that's an odd place to keep the various potions, lotions and powders but in truth we only keep a few essentials so that was soon tidied with just a few things which were out of date and needed slinging.. I need some more chemical ice packs so shall add those to the list.
Next up the candle cupboard which is currently so badly organised that it's in constant danger of avalanche.
But first coffee! After all I'm not exactly short on the stuff!
