See, This is Why I Married Him

We were getting organised to go out this afternoon when I noticed a Robin behaving strangely, fluttering up and down one of the high windows in the barn; at first I thought it was collecting insects or even possibly confused by its own reflection but then I saw that what I'd taken for the reflection was actually another Robin on the inside of the window. The two birds were matching each other perfectly, one trying to find a way out, the other trying to find its way in.

I called The Boy and we thought for a while. Sunday, the farm was shut, the barn locked plus as the barn was piled high with grain the trapped bird would be OK till morning but those little creatures were tugging at our heartstrings. The Boy went into the farmyard and circled the barn to see if another window was open somewhere or if any of the farm workers were around. No and No.

We prepared to be pragmatic and go out but The Boy suddenly said " I'm sorry, I can't do this" and headed for the phone. He phoned the farmer, arranged to walk over and get a barn key, came back, opened the barn then climbed and clambered up the almost roof high mountain of grain to get to the far wall where he shinned up the barn sides until he could open the window and release the trapped bird.

And the birds seemed to know that help was coming because they sat, one either side of the window until that help arrived then flew off happily together.

I married a genuinely good man!
