Well, I know I haven't posted in forever (except for a few random meme posts!), but I don't really suppose that I have had much to say. School finished on Friday (yay!) and although we were supposed to stay until 3:30 (the children get to leave at 2:00 on the last day of term), I managed to sneak out around 2:30...fantastic. Went down to the pub with a bunch of friends, which, although I do every Friday, I rarely get to do before about 6, but I was determined to get there before anyone left. So it was quite an exciting little escape from school. The headteacher was off ill and the only other stickler had a dentist appointment. So as soon as she left, I mused loudly in the assistant headteacher's hearing, "It would be so great if we could just...go!" "Well, if your area is tidy, I don't see why not." Yippee! Off I ran!
Reasonably uneventful Saturday: Christmas shopping; same on Monday. On Monday, I also brought some presents over to a friend's house before she left for two and half weeks. :(
Tuesday, much maths; much fun!
At some point over the last few days, I have seen what amounts to 6 (or so) movies: Lemony Snicket's A Series of Unfortunate Events--really good, particularly since I didn't like the book much, so I clearly need to go back and re-read it; Ella Enchanted--very cute Cinderella story with elements of Shrek-esqueness; Suzie Gold--mediocre girl-meets-boy, but he isn't Jewish--takes place in North London--made me chuckle; Timeline--Michael Crichton that
lea724 said was really not worth seeing...Trudi would agree, but my standards are sooooooo much lower than anyone else's (I think) when it comes to movies...--time travel adventure with a little bit of romance and violence--good guys vs. bad guys...you know, the usual!; 13 Going on 30--for the 2nd time--just as cute as before--smart, nerdish girl wishes she were grown-up after she's been taken advantage of and embarrassed at her 13th birthday party, she gets her wish and realises that all isn't wonderful just because you're "thirty, flirty and thriving"!; Eye of the Beholder--rented because I really like Ashley Judd, but the film was a little hard to follow and I ended up getting into the bath partway through as I was going out to see Phantom of the Opera--WOW! This was incredible. I never saw the stage version, but I can't see how it could be much better than this! The singing and acting were superb, the sets were brilliant and the special effects phenomenal! A must-see for anyone (who doesn't mind a predominantly-sung film...but it really didn't detract from it at all.)
So how was I watching all of these...DVDs, you might ask? Well, my wonderful sister got me a DVD player for my (albeit belated) birthday and Chanukah. I was/am VERY excited!! It's great, especially as my computer (which is what I watched DVDs on before) has a freaky habit of shooting off into fast-forward for no apparent reason...not so terrible, except it is virtually impossible to predict how and when it will resume normal play! So, this is definitely a top gift! Thanks, my best sister!
Got a very funny e-card today from Don: a boy hitting a snowman with snowballs and then the snowman takes his own head off and knocks the boy down with it. I think I've seen something similar; still sooooo funny! Thanks, Don!
And so, it's off to Pizza Express tomorrow with some friends. I heard on Radio 4 the other day that exercise the day before a big meal helps you store less fat from the next day's meal than if you didn't exercise...interesting...is it too late for a jog?!
