no place to live
so i was looking to finalising the deal on the room, but have run into probs. basically when i viewed the property, i noticed there were no locks on the bedroom doors. so i asked the landlord if it wud be a problem if i put a latch onto the inside, so i cud lock myself in while i slept, changed etc. he initially looked a bit apprenhensive but then said ok, i think that shudnt be a prob, as long as its not a lockable door (like from the outside) that itself set off alarm bells, coz ill be living with complete strangers incl 2 men.
but now when i asked him how much he wanted so that he cud take it off the market, he says im afriad u cant put an inside latch on the door, we have had lots of girls living here and its never been an issue, dont worry no one will go in your room.
so now thats got alarm bells going off in my head, coz hes making such a big issue about NOT wanting the doors locked. while its ok for a bloke, its not ok for girls. i thought mebbe i was being too indian in wanting my privacy, but wen i spoke to ppl at work about it, they were shocked that he is even considering letting rooms out without them being lockable from the OUTSIDE.....i mean whos to say they wont come into my room n pinch a lil money here or there or stuff i might not notice straight away.
so basically ive decided to tell him to stuff it. which means i cant move when i planned, coz im back to square one. i will have to go to bristol again and house hunt.
he lil bit gave me the creeps wen i met him, coz hes this geeky 40yr old guy and he lives in the house too, no wife or anything. hes probly a perv, whos to say ill be safe inside my room sleeping in the night.
so i think ill plan a trip again next weekend, and solely keep it for looking at places to live.
im a bit bu*mmed out by it, but my gut tells me to let this one go, whos to say if i moved it he wont hassle me with other stuff. its never a good idea to live with the landlords themselves.
