So this past week, volunteering for Typecon, was amazing. What is Typecon, you ask? It is a convention held every year for type designers and graphic designers that is all about typefaces, aka fonts. Before you laugh at the complete geekiness of it all, there is a hell of a lot more that goes into typography (not to be confused with topography) than one might think. But I wont preach on about the intricate world of type, just highlight my favorite moments of the convention.
- Being an assistant for about an hour to Gary Hustwit, the director of the movie "Helvetica" who also made the documentary, "Drive Well, Sleep Carefully" about Death Cab for Cutie. (Here is a link to his blog about Typecon Seattle

- Having a conversation with and getting my name hand-lettered by the famed John Downer. (Trust me, he is a superstar in the type world)
- The Free swag was awesome. Posters, pins, books, letter-pressed posters, free HOW, Print, and I.D. mags. Oh, and there was constantly free booze too. Always a bonus.
Some of the buttons, complete with type lingo...
I met and made contacts with some of the coolest people. It was just overall one of the best experiences and I am so glad I did it. Now its back to reality and a shitty job at Aaron Brothers...
