Sunday. Hmmm, what did I do?
Slept in until 10, buffet breakfast at Sauciety.
11-11:50am - The Spirit of the Place (Harbor 1)
Margaret Ronald (M), Sharon Lee, Steven Popkes, and Darlene Marshall
In certain tales of the fantastic, scenery is so much a part of the fabric of the fiction that it practically becomes a character itself. Let's talk about the stories set in these unique locales. Don't the contradict the modern fashion that says character and dialog are all, and scenery is at best a light decoration and at worst a distraction? In the best work, how is this effect justified - and accomplished?
12-12:50pm (Galleria/Kids Lair)
Autographing: Steve Miller, Sharon Lee, David G. Hartwell
Kids Concert - Heather Dale & Ben Deschamps
Did both! Talked with Ruth, Irene and Kev while we were waiting to get our books signed.
Then wandered around the dealers area. Could hear Heather & Ben throughout the galleria. Art Show was closed, so I didn't go through and see the original painting of Crystal Dragon? Dragon Ship? I can't remember which one was on display. *sigh*
While I was walking around, the guy at the
Company One table said 'I love
Striking 12!!!!' He is one of the few people who know that my sweatshirt with the Striking 12 logo is not about bowling. He's a big fan of
Groovelily too and has seen most of their shows, so we had a nice chat about favorite shows. Company One is doing "She Kills Monsters" by Qui Nguyen in April/May.
Had a chance to put an lj name with a face! Chatted with
Dina!
More Concerts! (Griffin)
1:00pm: Mary Crowell (I picked up her new CD with Alcolytes on it and she signed it!!!)
1:30pm: Gary Erlich - he sang Valancy's Gift and dedicated it to the teachers of Sandy Hook. He mentioned that he changed one line in the song because it was just too soon to sing "She went to the canyon, where teachers go to die".
I wish he'd put it on album! Or at least an mp3? I wants it, I do.
2-2:50pm - Exit Stage Left (Burroughs)
Walter H. Hunt (M), Myke Cole, Sharon Lee
Let's talk about our favorite bits where a genre story character dies or otherwise says goodbye. We may also throw in a few favorite entrances...
One of the questions that Myke Cole asked the audience and was surprised at how many people raised their hands "raise your hand if you've seen somebody die"
After the panel and bidding people farewell and safe trip, Kev & I headed out to the airport. Our flight were actually supposed to depart at the same time, but that didn't happen. My plane was delayed an hour. Had dinner in the Jet Blue food court. (he had Sbarro's pizza, I had a whopper from burger king) Since his flight was actually going to leave on time, I saw him off at the Southwest terminal.
It was a 6 1/2 hour flight across country. I got stuck next to the man who read aloud from The Bible for most of the trip. I tried to sleep, but I could hear him over the airplane noises and my ear phones!!!!!! I ended up turning up the volume and managed to sleep at last.
Sometimes, I think I prefer having to change planes rather than a nonstop flight. At least it breaks up the trip a bit.
Home by midnight.
