The beginning was grueling. Terribly. Painfully. Graduation "practice" was the most pointless waste of time. We arrived (I was 30 mins early, which was 90 mins before it was supposed to start) and within minutes we were loosening our ties. The smart ones just ignored the requested dress and wore dark shirts, white tennis shoes, no tie, jeans, and even no collar (the perfect opposite of the dress requirements). Those were smarter than I. Once inside the gates, we continued standing for another hour or so (nowhere to lean this time). There was much frisking at the gate. A few peoples' keys were removed. Isn't that reasonable? Over 30 people snuck in beach balls. From what I hear, this was the baddest (and therefor greatest) graduation ever. Within minutes of being seated, the first 3 beach balls rose from the class. We did listen to the first five minutes of speeches though. We decided it was boring. Over the course of the ceremony, at least 3 beachballs (up to 6) remained in motion above us. Silence was only heard during the Marine Corps 4 minute session. Even the prayers that we're not supposed to have were nearly drown out by crowd noise. I'm not sure whether there more people or more airhorns in the stands. I'd say the ration was about 1 to 1. The greatest interruption was the hurdling of the pocket sirens. These little buggers looked just like cell phones. For several minutes, we all thought they were. So occasionally you could hear the rise and fall of some sort of alarm/siren as it rainbowed from one person to an unsuspecting victim six rows away. Twas beautiful. We finally completed The Wave successfully. We'll call the first attempts warm-ups. And "We Will Rock You" performed by The Rudeness of 1/4 of the 2005 Class drowned out the calling of names for several minutes. We were seated on a giant wooden platform, which made the perfect percussion set for 200 feet. Guess I did alright on that Senior Math final after all. I honestly thought that was going to keep me from graduating. The last two months of school were suspenseful for me. By the time finals came, I was sure I was going to be in high school for an extended time. But then again, what teacher would be dumb enough to deal with me any longer than absolutely necessary. Yeah, I'm pretty sure I bombed the test and she just wanted thursday to be the last day she had to deal with me. If I was a teacher, I'd be extremely annoyed with students like me. Sorry for that interlude. Graduation was actually entertaining once we sat down for the first time. Glad I went after all. Congraduations to all my friends of '05. Excuse me, I should start packing for vacation. We're leaving for 8 days @ 7:30am tomorrow and I haven't packed a sock, cleaned my truck, or made my room accessible. But oh well, it's only 12:30am and I'm only driving 250 miles tomorrow morning. Have a good weekend. To help that, start your morning off with a piece of pie (works for me). 8-P
