What are some "unknown" bands you like?
I've got the "In Absentia" CD by Porcupine Tree and "Sweet Oblivion" by Screaming Trees. they're really awesome bands. I want "A Storm In Heaven" and "Urban Hymns" by The Verve, and the Temple Of The Dog CD. Temple Of The Dog was the Pearl Jam & Soundgarden project with Chris Cornell & Eddie Vedder. At The Drive-In was the original group from which we have Sparta and The Mars Volta. Blackfield and No-Man are projects of Porcupine Tree. Taproot and Injected are just hardcore rock bands similar to Linkin Park and Smile Empty Soul. The Wallflowers and The Verve are similar to Goo Goo Dolls and have that more musical form of rock- less noise and really excellent acoustics. Autopilot Off is difficult to describe- but it's surprising they aren't more well known, given they have that kind of sound that usually people of all tastes like. A Static Lullaby can be annoying due to their constant screaming, but they are a great mix of alternative and progressive rock- heavy guitar and incredibly poetic lyrics. Yngwie Malmsteen is undeniably one of the fastest guitar soloists in the world. Some argue that speed isn't greatness, but there comes a point where it's so mind-blowing that you have to say something good. He's easily faster than Van Halen, Satriani, and those other famous gods of guitar. Mad At Gravity is, sadly, seperated after only one CD (which I have). This great band did some amazing things with music. They applied some poetry to the instrumental aspect of their sound and came out with some patterns that I believe will go unmatched in the world of rock. You might call Mad At Gravity a Coldplay-Fuel. Dream Theater is one of those progressive rock groups that's all music and no noise. The lead singer is very controlled and the backing is even moreso, though it often soars into very passionate peaks. The drummer is insanely fast and driving throughout most of the songs and seems to share the central focus with the vocals. Dream Theater might be thought of as a Chevelle with the sounds of Rush and the constant urge to slam the listener's brain from side to side with wowing transitions.
