Big Brother...
... is demanding "his" unpaid taxes (the bastard)...
So the story is as thus: I cashed in my 401K in fall of 2002 when I was laid-off... had to pay a nasty Diner's club bill and have living expenses for 4 months... My former employer removed taxes from the amount but not enough... SO... I ended up with a nasty tax bill of nearly 5K that hasn't been paid. The IRS has been trying to collect their moola from me for about a year now... I kept putting it off, putting it off... they took my tax refund this year (which I expected)... Today I got an express letter delivered to my home saying that a levy has been placed on my salary at work... So I call the IRS... ask to be put on a payment plan... they're like, "Sure, no worries... We'll let your place of work know by Friday"... I'm like, sweet. So then I get a call back from my work contact ('cause I'd called her to find out the skinny) and SHE says she needs some official information on this by WEDNESDAY or they will remove the maximum amount BY LAW that they can... that would be ALL but 400 of my paycheck!! GRRRRRRRRRRRRRRR. So now I'm on hold with the IRS in an attempt to get them to fax information to my work so that I don't get all of that money removed... This sucks.
