Great Blue Heron

I pulled out of my driveway this morning and pulled up to the first intersection, and there in the middle of my street was a Great Blue Heron. Just stood there. And he wasn’t particularly interested in moving, so I had to take a right instead of going straight the way I normally would. That’s for sure the closest I’ve ever been to one of those birds. They usually don’t stray very far from water, which gives you an idea of what the rain has been like around here. Actually, I only live a few blocks from inlets of the bay; nevertheless, I’ve never seen a heron in my neighborhood itself. Wish I’d had my camera, but this is what it looks like:

I’m not great at heights, but I’d say it was over four feet tall. It’s when they’re flying that they’re really impressive, with quite a wingspan.
