Example:
You’re walking on the street and there is absolutely no one around, besides one person in the distance heading you’re way. As you come closer to the person, you try to avoid eye contact. It would be kind of awkward if you and that person kept on starring at each other for a whole minute until you walk passed, so what you do is you start taking more interest in you’re surroundings, you look at the shape of a tree, you try to remember the number plate on a car, you look at your feet and you give an estimate on how old your shoes are. Anything to keep your eyes away from the person, every now and than you give him a quick glance, just to make sure you don’t bump into him. And when that fateful second comes, 3 things can happen, either you say “Hallo” and he returns you with a “Hoi” and the two of you pass, or you greet him at the same time he greets you, making a pretty weird awkward noise, or you miss the perfect time to greet him and the both of you pass without saying anything. AWKWARD
