Yesterday, I didn't expect much of a birthday. I was working all day, and we're broke, so I thought there'd be a few phone calls and
papertigers would get me ice cream for dinner.
Boy did I ever underestimate my fiancee.
First, while I was asleep, the birthday fairy put a massive box of Crunch Berries cereal on the table, along with an adorable birthday card.
I went to work, and that turned out about as usual, but I got some phone calls, including an adorable one from the godsons that left me grinning. One of my students wrote "Happy birthday!" on the bottom of her (fortunately successful) test paper. Another gave me a packet of coffee from Albania.
I came home to another surprise.
papertigers had made a wonderful dinner for me! Fried chicken... green beans with onions... home-made stuffing... and a big bottle of green tea lemonade! Hooray!
She'd bought my favorite ice cream for dessert.
Tonight, we're having my "real" birthday dinner - and a chocolate cake dubbed, by the brother-in-law, "better than sex cake." It is devil's food, extra dense, with chocolate chips and a dulce de leche glaze. MMMMMMMM. Lucky me!
