Well done, dear. Intimate and caring and yet not OOC, which is tricky. And the way Wilson bottles things up, I could absolutely see him developing an anxiety problem or a form of PTSD.
Perhaps the antidepressant/antianxiety med you wanted was Zoloft, not Xanax? Because Xanax, and Ativan for that matter, are indeed very fast-acting sedatives.
Thank you so much! I definitely think I might be pleading for a beta reader for my next story, with all the trouble I seem to be having with medications.
A good friend of mine was prescribed Xanax for anxiety disorders. But you're right... if it's too fast acting, that wouldn't serve the function needed for the story. So, unless a better medication comes along, I think I'll sneak back in and prescribe Zoloft for poor Wilson instead.
Thanks so much for the encouragement. I really do appreciate it!
Actually, it works in the context when it's first mentioned; Wilson could well have taken a Xanax to calm that specific anxiety attack. My whole family had a scrip for the stuff after my dad suddenly died.
So when you say Wilson's waiting for the Xanax to kick in, that seems totally right to me. He had an episode and took a pill to calm himself down. It only goes wrong when you get to the suggestion that the medicine takes time to build up, the way an antidepressant does.
You can check with me if you want things beta read; if I have time I'll be glad to do it. I highly recommend beta/first-readers, as mine constantly save me from getting egg on my face and help make my stories far better than they'd otherwise be.
I will definitely take you up on it if you have time. This is the third fandom I've written in, and I always had my stories beta read in the last two. Still getting my bearings in this one, but I do think I'm hooked.
And what you said makes perfect sense about the Xanax. So, if I'm understanding this correctly, Xanax would be used to ease an anxiety attack after the fact. I wonder then if that would be used in combination with something else that would help prevent the attack in the first place - say Zoloft or Wellbutrin.
