From John seeking answers from Sam and watching body language to Dean storming in and the incredible pacing ramped up from there and kept peaking and peaking . . . my eyes were glued to the screen, heart in my throat . . . and I swear I heard the thud when Sam dropped.
The characterization in this is top-notch, so heavy with hurt and distrust and worry and John trying to piece everything together with nothing to go on. And his love for those boys is so poignant and held back as is his way although glimpses of it are bleeding through.
I also love the role reversal of the boys' younger selves with Dean so angry and distrustful over what John did . . . and Sam at peace and having to be pushed really far now to rise to the bait, even though John still knows what buttons to press.
Damn near wept when Bobby told John not to waste the suffering.
Okay, I'm going to stop now before I gush all over the place. I'm going to go add this to my fics I couldn't stop thinking about list. It's a short list, only fics that really really really get to me down deeply go there.
Please, please keep writing in this verse.

The characterization in this was honestly, really complicated. John's POV is a difficult place to hang out. I love John, but the way he sees his purpose and the way he sees his boys are always going to be at odds. The scene with Sam was especially tricky because I just see Sam as trying so hard but John is always going to be able to push his buttons.
Dean has a lot of issues to work out... as do they all.
Thank you for letting me know you would like more... it means a lot.
