Child Molesters

The Problem: Can child molesters be rehabilitated?

Most people would say that it is impossible for them to be treated. If you were to ask anyone walking down the street about this subject, they would most likely agree that pedophiles should be locked up forever. If this is the case, then why do many get out of prison, why do they even get the ( Read more... )

Ok, Angie I'm not sure if this is where I'm supposed to respond but you know me and all this new crap blah. Anyways, this how pedaphile thing is something I really like to fight about, cause I have a young child myself, so it hits close to home. The way I see it is...All communities have more rights then the pedaphile for sure. They have the right to keep our children safe and out of harms way. Which in my opinion, we're doing a poor ass job. If a community wants to stop murders, and other violent crimes, it should eliminate molestation (child sex abuse) by convicting and locking up molesters as long as possible, preferably forever. It has been proven that child molesters cannot be rehabilitated. Studies of child molesters show that on average a child molester will assault 100 children during his lifetime. That just makes me sick. Doesn't it make you cringe?? The victim and others affected by this live the rest of their lives in fear. This isn't something you so easily forget. It destroys a victims self-esteem. They definitely are a harm to society and shouldn't re-enter society at all. Just about this, would you allow a convicted pedophile to teach our elementary school children???? I think not.

Think of the little girl in Florida (just recently)who was in this situation and ended up dead. Children don't know any better. They ca't help themselves. One word comes to mind when I think of that man. "Retribution." An eye for an eye. I believe he should be punished just like that young girl was. I don't want to sound hateful, but I believe "Public death" should be allowed. Maybe then everyone will see that when you're caught, you're not just gonna get a slap on the wrist.

People also need to realize (friends, loved ones, someone close) that if a child comes to you and asks for your help, you can't just sit back and hope it will stop. Don't let your emotions jump ahead of you. Let your child know they are safe, loved, and not at fault.

Sorry Angie if I threw this a bit of topic. I can do that sometimes. Hope it helps a bit though.

This is most definately the material this site is trying to promote: your opinions, as well as your concerns with the content presented. You have brought many different statements into play, which I will recap. All are great sub-categories within this topic to discuss:

1. Opinion of how society is doing a horrible job of keeping our children safe and out of harms way.
2."...convicting and locking up molesters as long as possible, preferably forever..." (Some may argue otherwise)
3. The case of public execution itself will be a topic debated in the future and what kind of "morality rules" it breaks.

As for the child in Florida, unfortunately there is no way to give an "eye for an eye". She was innocent and had no control with the situation, so the variables aren't equal. Also, she was actually snatched from outside (if we're talking about the same case) because she hesitated to get into the vehicle with the perp.

Your advice to parents though is great and should be taken into consideration: let your child know that he/she is loved and that he/she can never disappoint you. Be open and honest with your child and tell them about the dangers of strangers.
