Distribution Day & The 04-05 Yearbook

Jun 10, 2005 20:10

Hi all! I am absolutely worn out right now but I thought I'd just update my lj about my day before it recedes into some black hole crevace in my mind.

YESTERDAY (thurs, june 9) //
Around 3:30 yesterday afternoon, I received a phone call from Curtis informing me that yearbook distribution was occuring Friday (today). While we have had been lied to again and again by our publisher for the past two weeks I found it suspicious at first. After I learned more I discovered that our books were already supposidly being packaged and on their way to the plane to be air flighted. As you might imagine, this led to an exponential escalation of excitement in me about... 30 minutes later when it all hit me on what was happening: distribution was going to happen Friday and NOT on finals week!!!!!!

Naturally, my first instinct was to tell the world of my joy because you spread the love and not hog it. Because it took me so long for it to all hit me, by the time I got to LJ four other yearbookers had already posted regarding distribution. Heh. ;p A little later on, I remembered that due to the lateness and unexpectedness of this all, more information was needed. So I hurried in editing my post to include what to bring, a faq section, et cetera. GREAT, no? But all of this is rather boring really. I went to the YB-BBQ at around 6:30 and no, I didn't sleep over. Why? Because I seriously need sleep. Not only to function but in order to deal with the odd crazes that life seems so fit to throw at me.

TODAY (friday, june 10) //
Woke up at about six and headed over to school at about 6:40. Went to mickey d's for a breakfast run at about 7:10. To make a long story short, the morning was somewhat relaxing with the exception of predicting when the yearbooks would get here. Which brings me to the rest of my story.

We had originally thought the books would get to us by 1:30 PM. The planes were supposed to have landed at 11:45 AM. I think the real panic started when they weren't to us by 1:45, when they especially said 1:30 PM. That would have been...let's see.... four..five.... about the tenth lie that I have heard from them. I'm sure that there have been more that I havn't heard but hey, it's not like anyone is keeping track or anything. By 2:10 PM we began freaking out as the P.E. folk had already started to begin their clustering and there were no sight of the trucks carrying our precious lifeworks. At about 2:16 I sighted a truck going down Palm and immediately ran towards the parking lot to see if it was our messenger. And luckily for us (and them quite frankly) it was! In the next 15 minutes the entire yearbook staff (current staff and next year's staff) along with a few volunteers (and Mr. Brazeal's [sp?] P.E. class) helped out with unloading all 270 books. It was actually a rather an impressive task of efficiency and teamwork as we were able to unload all of the boxes and books within those 15 minutes with seconds to spare a sigh of relief.

With the books unloaded, our next horror was to discover that none of the books had namestamps on them. Our Yearbook Representative from Lifetouch, Scott (not to be confused by either of the scott c's in yb), went immediately to call and find out what happened with those. They were able to save their asses by telling us that they would get us name plates next week for people to stick onto their Yearbook. That quelled our murderous rampage but annoyed us further. But regardless, we had no time to complain and vent ourselves with the first horror (or second if you count the fact that the yearbooks didn't get here until 2:16) that we discovered.

Everyone scrambled to their stations and after a few final announcements by Dotson and Scott C. we were ready to accept people into the Gym. Considering the entire unloading and unpackaging of 270 yearbooks along with final readiness/prep of the entire staff occured within the course of 20 minutes is impressive if not a miracle. This just goes to show how early preparation, stress, and fear can all combine to raise adrenaline and pump everyone working. Needlesstosay, we were able to start distribution on time--approximately five to eight minutes after the afterschool bell rang.

An hour later, we had handed out what must have been about half the amount of yearbooks and had started the cleanup. With odd issues all around, including Dotson's lost keys, we were for the most part done for the weekend. At this time it was all over and the biggest, and more deserved, sigh of relief came all around. Teamwork.

After I got back home I quickly took and shower and proceeded in beginning some of my design work. I met with a client at approximately 6 and finished at about 7:40. Since then (it's 8:01 now) I have been finishing up this LJ entry and beginning to lose consciousness. I am going to go take a nap soon. Just as soon as I finish this last part.

As nothing can be perfect for obvious reasons (we are human beings and subsequently instrinsically flawed), I am beginning my own list of errors in the yearbook. If you would like to note any, you are welcome to comment them.

But before all of that, I would like to make note of one important error that I feel personal responsibility towards as it occured in the section of the yearbook I was responsible for.

That is, the Chamber Chorale photograph in the Clubs Section on page 123 is actually the Choir photograph. The actual Chamber Chorale photograph, along with Treble Ensemble, were not placed into the Yearbook as we did not have photographs for them. In all sincerity, I am deeply grieved for this error. My most sincere apologies to those in Chamber Chorale, Choir, and Treble Ensemble--and anyone else affected.
