They are flat cut outs wrapped in paper mache strips and then painted and glued on the canvas. What do you used for the base of yours?

I almost sent you an e-mail cuz I was feeling worried that you might think I was stealing from you. Its kind of silly since I've been painting dresses for months now. But if you felt funny I'd want you to tell me. I used to do a lot of work in paper mache years ago so this is not new to me. It seemed like a natural progression after painting the dresses this summer to make some paper mache ones. Aww jeez I feel like a dork. Please let me know what you think. xo

Yeah I feel the same way. We are all exposed to our culture and have our own interpretations of it. We each have something important to say. I strive to be really original and authentic with my work always. I actually really like to feel like I am working on an idea that fellow artists are exploring...that way we can inspire each other. I'm really glad that I have this community of other artists to share my work with. I feel like we are a team supporting one another. Sort of like other communities that have existed in the past....the surreallists, the impressionists, etc. I like knowing that fellow artists are exploring similar ideas. Like we are all working on some common goal.

There is a whole group of people who sell on Ebay who are dealing with this issue....and not always in a positive way. I guess it goes back to integrity.

Being dorky is good I think. It keeps us real. xoxoxo

I kinda pegged you for the mushy kind. Heh.

Last spring I was hanging out at a friends house and she was working on a sewing project. She had the pattern unfolded on her table and I was struck by it. I had been using all kinds of papers in collages and hadn't thought of pattern paper. I bought some to use in collages and found that I loved the shapes of the patterns as much as the paper itself. I kind of felt stupid thinking about painting a dress. A simple boring shape. But I was excited by it. So by the summer I dove in and tried some dresses. That was right around the time we met here on LJ I think.

Okay your turn....how did you start making dresses???
