Saw the Watchmen today and I can say two things about it: It's a looooooong film and it's definately not for children. I mean I'm surprised that it didn't get a R18+ classification. With the amount of stuff they removed from comic the film still manages to pull nearly 3 hours and it pays off because I don't think I would have liked the film if they tried to rush through the story. I think a director's cut would at least add another hour to the film. As far as I can tell the writer's only removed things from the film, there's nothing unnecessary added or anything that tries to make the film appeal to the general population.
The Watchmen isn't a film for regular people, the pace of the story and some of the expositions, especially Dr Manhattan's, will probably leave many who haven't read the comic aka most people scratching their heads. The action is well choreographed but a bit repetitive and Rorschach's voice sounds a bit too much like Christian Bale's raspy Batman voice.
And above all I couldn't believe I was actually watching a WATCHMEN film, but I went to the cinema and I did.
I was watching the Watchmen...
Scene's removed from the movie that I can recall:
Most of Rorschach's sessions with the psychiatrist. - The sort of condensed them into one session and scrapped the scenes of the psychiatrist at home.
Rorschach retrieving his backup costume from his old land lady. - He got his first costume from the prison storage room.
The origin of Rorschach's costume.
The giant psychic squid. - It was replaced with a series of bombs that emulate Dr Manhattan's power to explode people.
The news stand guys and The Black Freighter - The news stand guys were there, but they had none of their dialogue.
The first Nite Owl's death. - He appears in one scene early on in the movie but is never seen after that.
Feel free to add any you can remember.
Also the film uses any chance possible to include the World Trade Centre in background shots.
Also, also the film includes some of the best politician impersonators I've ever seen.
