I've been following the controversy about the cartoons of Mohammed. I understand both sides of the debate, but what I don't understand is this:
http://www.timesonline.co.uk/article/0,,3-2024352,00.html Um... what the hell? Britain has pretty much nothing to do with this! No newspaper has reprinted the cartoons and the British media has been largely sympathetic to Muslim anger. I really don't get it. Forgive me if this seems overly simplistic or even racist, and I say this with no maliciousness, but if extremist Muslims have so much beef with their respective European governments, then why don't they simply leave? Personally, I'd never live in a country if I honestly believed that its government didn't respect my beliefs. Surely they'd be more comfortable in a country where Islam is specifically catered to, instead of just tolerated. But it seems to me that if you reap the benefits of living in a Western country, you should try to understand Western values like freedom of the press. Or, at the very least, refrain from making bomb threats.
