In the UK, you must pay roughly $200 A YEAR for a tv license. This funding goes towards the BBC, but even if you don't watch it, you still have to pay. Anyway, the TVLA supposedly keeps a record of all the houses that don't have a tv license and they use this advanced technology to track down people watching tv without a license. They obtain warrants and come into your house threaten to charge you a thousand pounds.

I'm very much against this organization because they tend to target students and single mothers, as these are the people that generally cannot afford a license. They don't offer reduced rates for students, low-income families, or even if (like me), you'd only use the license for half a year.

For they typical family, tv licensing is not a big deal. You only need one license per household and considering that you have two, possibly three sources of income in a normal family, the $200 is not a big deal at all. However, it is a rather hefty price for the individual, state-supported student.

Anyway, this organization pisses me off. They use intimidation, threats, and rude letters to get money out of you. At the very least, I'd like to see them offer more flexible options.
