Call me Anti-American

I know I've said this countless times in the past, but I think it bears repeating.

I FUCKING HATE THE NORDIC NEWS!!!

God, the staff just totally sucks. No, let me correct myself. A good deal of the staff is okay, but a select few just really piss me off. Someone (lets call him Hard-On Bologna--it rhymes, get it?) is incredibly lame. Today he was bragging about how makes $26 an hour at a job his sister got for him. Then he said that he never spends less than $50 on a meal. What bullshit. I mentioned how in TOK, we calculated exactly how many starving children in Africa we could save with the ridiculous amount of money Inglemoor High School spends on prom. He just said something along the lines of how he's entitled to have his extravagance.

I don't think so.

I don't care how many hours you work or what "great feats" you've accomplished in your 18 years, but I know for a fact that there's no reason why any of us should go to such ludicrous lengths to impress each other when so much of the world is living on less than a dollar a day.

I know I'm pretty damn priviledged; I'm not trying to deny that. But there's something about traveling to Nicaragua every year, suitcases packed full of soap and other things I take for granted and seeing naked children living in shacks made out of tires and plywood. Maybe that's why I was so affected by "Hotel Rwanda". Maybe that's why I no longer think it's funny when people call me a dirty Nicaraguan. Is this really how people perceive the third world? Oh my God, it makes me sick to think that maybe all the jokes we make about Mexicans doing hard labor and Asians driving cars with their small penises is just thinly-veiled, light-hearted racism. *shudders*

Mmkay, I'm going to get off my soapbox now and do something about it.
