(Sorry, couldn’t resist the pun. Not that I tried. For the Latin-illiterati, that’s “speculation on two mirrors.”)

Why did Sirius Black have both sides of the paired mirrors he and James had used during separate detentions to communicate privately?

where did Tom get the spell he adapted to make it possible for his Death Eaters to Apparate blind when summoned, and end up in his vicinity?I think it was an adaptation of the Apparition Points that the Ministry set up for mass public events such as the QWC. That one too allows many people to Apparate without knowing where they are going except it's the spot designated for activity X. Sorry

Also, Aberforth had been looking in on Harry via one mirror for months on end. We know he didn't think much of Harry's mission (even though he probably didn't know what it was). If the mirror had such directed Apparition capacity wouldn't he have used it sometime during the winter, to get to Harry and recommend an escape route to him?

Remus didn't 'become distant'. Sirius and James ousted him from their social circle because they suspected him. At least as early as the time the Order photo was taken, 2-3 weeks before Harry's birthday. (IMO Peter framed Remus). Your other explanations do work though. I agree, by late July James and Sirius were no longer using the mirrors and may have not been using them for a long time by then.

I'd have them just make Vanishing Boxes instead of using owls or paper planes in the Ministry, too. Though why couldn't objects be handed over through the floo?
