WARNING: RANT! Some people need to get the fuck off their high horses.
These people are specifically zealots, of certain operating systems.
Especially Debian Zealots.
I've gotten tired of: Debian is doing it Y way, so all X way (=non-Y way) are horrible.
Despite the fact that EVERY OTHER DISTRO is doing it that way, and the standard says it's X way.
Also, the free or bust method. Fine, do that. I appreciate it.
However, I use my computer for more than just Open-source apps. I also play games. I use Nvidia's GPL/proprietary drivers. (Which if some of the more reactionary stopped to *read* the GPL IS allowed, under certain circumstances.) I'm tired of people acting like goddamned fire and brimstone preachers. GET A CLUE.
I like open-source software. I program some. I help bugfix, patch and help users with some. I'm just getting REALLY hacked off at the holier than thou attitude of some people. (Esp common among debian populance, not that everyone is, just a lot.) Fine, re-write ET for me, or get Id to open source the q3 engine, and redo the whole texture/rules for ET.
Oh, and then there are the overclockers. I've got an Asus A8N-SLI Deluxe board. Most discussions of the board on forums I see are ruined by someone shouting: It doesn't go over 240MHz with 1T timings. (That's related to the memory timings, and the overclock of the clock that usually runs at 200MHz, determining CPU, Hypertransport, and memory. And I'll concede the point if ONE of them can show me fair benchmarks that show it having more than 5% difference in enemy-territory, doom3, or a mysql benchmark, on an Athlon 64 on an nforce4.) UNTIL THEN STFU, just cause you can't enlarge your virtual dick more. (For the record, I've had a higher overclock than anyone I've seen on boards like that: 2.8GHz, on a nominal 1.8GHz. Yeah, I got a decent chip, and it goes up to a GHz faster. Guess what? I usually have it running at 1GHz, cause I DON'T want to be superheated.)
And on a side rhetorical note: WTF is up with Windows XP being slower than shit. I mean really, a 1.2GHz celeron, should NOT take over half a minute to startup firefox. After slow as hell login from the login screen, AND the wait while that appears. I'd rather run CDE (Which I loathe) than XP w/128MB or 256MB (I think it has 256), because at least CDE allows you to use a fucking webbrower, like today. Dear fucking god that crawls! (And no spyware, etc. Just AVG, and XP.)
(Honestly, I've seen it run a lot better, but that wasn't what I was 'fixing' today. 'fixing' being defined as turning the damned thing on, that wouldn't turn on for anyone else...)
In conclusion: Cluelessness still abounds on the internet.
