Tangerine and Honey Hues

Warm air glided off the wind and sent her hair off in forty directions. August air, fresh after a storm last nightfall. The ground was still damp. I’m holding your fingertips. Uphill two steps, downhill three. I feel your weight shift as you leave yet another footprint in the drying mud. Another memory. Another moment to keep track by. My toes meet the heel of your print. Two identities lying in a crooked line. Dew drops trickle off grass and down rocks and stepping stones nature has laid out for us.
Watch your step. Follow me. Uphill three steps, downhill two. Overhangs and footholds. Ledges and moss-covered stones. Enter the clearing. My fingertips flee your grasp as my legs and feet embrace the level ground. Footsteps to match heartbeats- catch me if you can. Race me to the edge. Protective hands clutch my waist to hold me back. Arms spread, eyes open, as we jump into the sunset.
