This coming Saturday (12/4/04) is when operation good cheer takes place at the Pontiac Airport (Oakland International Airport for those of you who don't use it's old name).
What this is, is a whole bunch of companies, people, etc... have donated time & money so that gifts can be purchased for kids of underprivileged families for Christmas. Even right now, there is a ton of gifts in a pile in a hanger at PTK airport. Pilots who volunteer their time, aircrafts, and help will then fly the gifts from PTK to other airports around the state where they will be dispersed to the proper families.
Anyone who is near the area and wants to help out can. All you gotta do it show up at the airport at the entrance by the control tower at 7:30-8:00am. Then sign in, have some pancakes and get to work. I plan on going, so look for me in a black work coat with a santa hat on. I tend to stay out on the tar-mat and load planes seeing as I have aviation experience. Lots of other people choose to stay in the warm hangers and load the trucks with presents, so they can be drivien out to the tar-mat.
