VA trip, Part I

Nov 20, 2005 08:54

I came down here when I found out there was a death in the family. Well, I should clarify. Not my real family (IE: by blood), but My real family. I openly admit I am not related to anybody in the extension of my family in VA. However, I am closer to those in Va then I am to some of my relatives back at home. These people are friends of my Dad's that he met sometime around the time of my birth. Anywho, Wednesday evening I got word that Joe had died. At that exact moment the answer was clear, rode trip. So Dad, Jason, and I took the van and drove down here to attend the funeral. Turns out that since Joe died at home in accordance for VA law there must be an autopsy. The body will be released Monday or Tuesday. Too Bad Joe's funeral was Yesterday. There have always been jokes about being late to one's own funeral, but I have never seen someone actually do it.

The drive down was nice. With Dad, J, and I taking turns it went pretty smooth. We were planning to leave Wed night, but we actually left sometime Friday morning instead. This gave Dad and I time to put away the new Motorcycle for the winter and set up a job for him when we get back. We left about 3:30am Friday morning and got to the hotel with enough time to grab shower, change, and get to the funeral home right as visitation started at 6PM. It was great to see everyone even if it was under such sad circumstances.

To be continued in Part 2 because I don't want to bore you with a hella long entry.
