Well, I've personally had a lot less telemarketing calls since I've been on the list, my home used to get about 6 a day, and we don't get any now.

Telemarketing companies are supposed to check the list against any numbers they have before calling the numbers.

I think it's in how people represent themselves when they call, if you are selling something, and no one requested the information, that's one thing, but if the person you are calling filled out a paper and requested the information, it should be stated "Hi this is (name) from (company) (person being called) filled out (paperwork) at (store/place name) requesting we call and give further information" even at that, why not mail them things?

Or, the companies need to give the workers better scripts, because my parents' mortgage company was calling here two or three times a week until I asked who they were, why they were calling, and if they were my parents' mortgage company. The guy that called got snippity with me after that because he had to answer my questions, but I feel there should be some form of courtesy of letting the people know who you are, and why you are calling before you try and sell/give information on anything.

The do not call registry is for those companies that decide "Let's make a few bucks and sell all this information to other places!"

:)

I just don't put my phone number on anything that I don't need to put it on.

Mailing lists are another thing.. I mail the entire contents of the envelope back to the companies in the envelope they sent inside it with "put garbage in it's place" written on a note inside after removing any identifiers from the paperwork :)

well with any financial institutions, there are privacy policies about when and how they can introduce themselves. Ie. when I worked for captial one, I could not identify to them that I was calling from collections unless I had ascertained that I was speaking to the cardholder... regulations like that may exist with mortgage companies as well.

and with regards to why not mail it out (1) postage!, (2) trees! and third, where I work, the information is time sensitive so mailing is not a feasable option. (not to mention, most of my outgoing calls consist of "Hi, this is Ainslie at OOC calling with regards to your request you made, I just wanted to verify that by digging by hand you meant spade pick shovel or rototiller. Ok great, well thanks for you help and have a great day!"
