Jason had had a far less traumatizing weekend than Nico, even with Bruce in town. It had been surprisingly nice to have Bruce around - at least, when Jason didn't mention Nico. Bruce said they'd met, but that was it, and not knowing what had happened was driving him crazy. The fact that he made it until after class before going and knocking on Nico's door was a miracle.
"Come in!" Nico called, figuring it was Percy looking for Luke and there was no point pausing his game or cleaning up the many bowls of spaghetti-o's littering the floor where he lounged on a pile of blankets. At least he wasn't trying to freeze out the room just then.
"Jay!" Nico nearly rolled onto a bowl in surprise. "Uh, no." With barely a glance at his controller the game was paused and Nico was climbing to his feet and looking kind of worried.
Mostly because Nico didn't know what Bruce had said and maybe his day could get worse. "Come in, please?"
"Ugh, no," Nico complained, barely glancing at the mess. "I'm just cursed. But if you want some, I will not stop you." If Nico was really unlucky, anyone else touching the food would turn it back into burgers and fries.
"No, it's okay, really. I actually came to check on you and make sure you're okay. Bruce said he ran into you," Jason said, looking a little guilty. "I'm sorry I didn't give you more warning that he was coming. I didn't know until he was already here."
Nico scrubbed his hand through his hair, unsure how to ask about the Bruce thing. "Yeah, I'm sorry about that, too." Maybe just asking about it was a good strategy. "Uh, did he say anything about our conversation?" Or, you know, tell Jason to keep away from the weirdo.
"That's it?" Nico was totally shocked. "Guess he decided I should get to tell you how he knew we were dating." Which seemed kind of mean in Nico's mind, though maybe Bruce and Jason didn't talk about that kind of stuff.
No, they did not talk about that kind of stuff, and that might have been apparent from how wide Jason's eyes went. "What? He knows?! Oh god, I should have known he'd figure it out," he said. "I'm so sorry. He knows everything, I should have known he'd figure this out. He never even acted like he knew. God I'd kill for his poker skills."
"Yeah, made for a fun conversation," Nico replied sarcastically, deciding suddenly that the carpet was really interesting. It wasn't like he'd expected Jason to say anything to Bruce, but that didn't take the awkward away. "But don't worry, if you do well in your classes he might let you keep seeing me."
"Is that what he said?" Jason said, growing angry in an instant. "Screw that, he can't stop me from seeing you. I--I didn't know how he'd take the whole dating a guy thing, which is why I didn't say anything, but now I wish I had so I could have made it clear that he can't stop me from being with you."
"Guess I wasn't the only one mad about the idea," Nico realized, glancing up. "Relax, I wasn't planning on stopping anything unless you told me to." That was true in more ways than one, to be honest.
"Did you get mad at Bruce? That would explain why he didn't want to talk about you," Jason said, sighing. "I wish I'd been there to talk to him too on your behalf."
"He was so..." Nico sighed. "Honestly, I probably would've been fine with him any other weekend and now I'm kind of thinking I messed stuff up." And that it would be his own fault if Bruce took Jason and never let him come back to Fandom.
