Tonight I learned that, during the Great Depression, my Oma would make 12 dozen doughnuts every single morning (except Sundays).  She took those doughnuts to the market every single morning and would trade them against her grocery bill.  After the Depression ended, she never made so much as one more.  Looking back, I can't recall ever seeing her eat one, either.
