So I'm currently working on a group in which we have to write a computer program to calculate how to set up a cannon (elevation, extra distance from target) to a hit a target at any given height and distance within a given range. It's turned out to be pretty time-consuming, and somewhat difficult.
Anyway, not the point. One person in my group plays WoW. All he does is play WoW. As in, instead of doing ANYTHING on our group project. He plays WoW. WoW, WoW, WoW. Yesterday for example (this is the last straw by the way, his name isn't going on any of the rest of the project), I asked him at 11:40 if he could work on the part that due in conjunction with my other partner and between them get it to me in time to write the memo for it and get it turned in by five. Perfectly reasonable don't you think? He of course agrees, and apologizes for seeming to not be interested (this is the second time he's apologized by the way), and I, of course being the nice guy, say "Hey, no problem man, it's cool." So I go on about my business, which consisted of Calculus homework and a bit of Call of Duty whilst I waited on their part of the project. I waited two and half hours and decided to go check his progress (because my other partner had been working on it seperately all along, which was the plan), and lo and behold he was playing WoW. What a surprise. By this time it was 2 in the afternoon, and it was due at 5. So I tell him he really needs to get started because I have to have time to write the memo. He says, "Oh ok, I'll get started" as if he didn't know it was due at 5. >_< By this time, I have no confidence in him, but luckily the other guy looks like he'll be able to finish it without any assistance. So I go back to my room and wait around until 3:30, and just walk by like I'm minding my own business to see if he's working on it. What do I see? Thottbot or some other crap and WoW covering his screen. His excuse this time? "I haven't gotten any emails back from our partner yet." .....seriously. He needed a couple values for it (not to start the program, mind you), which were readily available from several other people on the floor, and when I tell him to just get them from someone else he says "Oohhhh, ok." As if this had never occurred to him. Are you kidding me? I mean really? Fast forward, I check his room one more time and his door is closed, and remains that way until dinner. My other partner and I did all the work, and WoW-man never even touched bases with me to see the other guy got it done.
Moral of the story, addiction to WoW is just as bad as any other addiction. It's his own business if he wants to blow off his own assignments, but it's hard enough to get B's and C's here, without some jackleg not pulling his weight. I played WoW, quit, played again, and quit again. For god's sake, the game isn't not that damn important or addicting.
The only thing I haven't decided yet is whether or not I'm going to tell him he's not on the team anymore, or if I'm just going to tell the professor what's going down.
:I was going to post this under the MMORPG section on eBash's website, but decided to post it here.:
