Well, it's been a minute since my last public post. I can stop bitching about my weight and bitch about keeping fit. I dropped fifty pounds, from 189 to 140. I keep my weight between 140 and 145. Adjusting for Aunt Erma's inflation tax she puts on me every month.
To keep fit, I've been biking almost every day. It's a great work out and I think I'm starting to feel the benefits of a routine exercise schedule. I need to jog more often, but with my new brain, I've been able to successfully jog an entire mile. It's amazing: once I get over the first five minutes... It's like a crazy adrenalin shot hits my body, allowing me to continue. The only discouraging factor are my shoes, they're not the comfiest. I know that I'll need to try to save up for a good pair of jogging shoes.
The band I started with Kyle has been great. We've played a couple of shows, mostly at the charm city art space, but we have a show this Saturday. It's a free show at a record store, called Coda Records, in Harford county. They're straight up legit and cool as hell, and we're playing with Friend Collector again... They're a fantastic noise Band, very similar to cherubs and hammerhead, I love their new LP and they're real cool guys, too. I'm really looking forward to playing with them again. So I'm hoping that this show goes well, I need to double/triple check my amp and guitar. Make sure I have everything, equipment wise, for this show!
Hive Bent has been working on new songs, I think we're getting a focus on our sound and how we can expand on what we have. For example, the possibility to incorporate a bassist into the band. We just need to find someone who can work with our scheduling so we can practice. Also, practice space!
It's kind of cool (and frustrating) to write lyrics. I really yearn for that Brian Eno approach to lyrics, but I end up writing like Steve Albini. Don't get me wrong: I love Steve Albini. In this day and age, however, I think people don't give a shit about lyrics. They're just another piece of the instrumentation meant to make a song feel more whole. I often envy those who can weave simple, nonsensical, and extremely crafty wordsmithing songs--they have the best sense, they know the words don't always matter.
Hey, what's that song about? "Molestation and rape." O.o it can come off as somewhat ..... Trite.
(I also think it stems for listening to a fair amount of Shellac lately....)
As an artist, I'll see how I progress from here on out, it's a journey and I hope I can achieve some sort of artistic wordsmithing without cheapening the song with overtly serious subject matter.
Whoops. Turned into a rant.
Well, the lyrics, have been fun, a quick run through:
I wrote one song about suicide pacts made over the Internet.
Another one's about Slender Man and how he scares the shit about me.
The third, written by Kyle, is about a balk.
The fourth song is about Rick Santorum and Conservative America's war on women.
The fifth song is about a friend who's a crazy drunk and bipolar.
The sixth song is about child molestation/rape in the perspective of the girl/woman.
The seventh song is about CWC, his homophobia, and coming out as a tomgirl.
