[Even older, Erk still went to work as usual. Quite typical of him. He saw a small girl in a familiar seat and walked by - the last time he was here, Yomiko used to read there all the time...

Excuse me, are you new here?

Oh, uhm, yes, I am. Sort of.

Is it alright that I sit here? I'm just waiting for my Mum to come by and get me.

That's alright.

...ah, do you know what your mother looks like?

Uhm, well yes... She's tall and slender and has brown eyes and long black hair. She usually has it pulled up and tied.

Have... you seen her?

Erk Reglay.

It's a pleasure to meet you, Mr. Reglay.

But... what makes sense now?

I am fully aware that this sounds like something out of a fictitious book, but please bear with me.

This is Memento Eden, an island full of amnesiacs. People are brought here by unknown means and left to forge their way in the town we have here. Typically, when one appears, the only memory they have is that of their first name. Nothing else.

At the same time, the same magic that brought us here is currently meddling with the residents. Some are getting older, some are getting younger. For example, while I'm currently in my thirties, I should be around the age of sixteen.

That's where you come in. You see, you've also been here before, and you should be much older. About my age, actually. Suspension of belief aside, did that make any sense to you?

Yes, I understood everything you just said. It all sounds sort of like Alice in Wonderland... except I didn't fall down any rabbit holes.

You're rather bright for your age. I doubt I would've gotten my head around it. And for all we know, we fell down a rabbit hole and forgot everything else.

Well, thank you. I read a lot.

But... people do get their memories back... right?

frumpyface May 27 2009, 04:55:34 UTC
It shows.

Yes, they do. I've gotten several memories back myself.

I see.

Um... what is this place like? Are the people here nice? Do you like it here?

It's quiet and the library is well-stocked. What more could one ask for? The people... most are nice, some not so much.

As for myself... I liked it here. I met more friends here than I had in my homeworld, but... ah, my mouth gets away from me sometimes. Yes, I do.

This is a wonderful library. And the books are so well cared for. They all must really love it here. I could stay in here for ages...

Uhm... is it ever, er... dangerous here?
